This book was disappointing. The author unnecessarily interjects political jabs, as if everyone holds the same beliefs that he does. The author is eloquent and humorous at times, but he goes overboard with generalizations that impose his personal experience onto the reader. For example, "Your uncle Steve will do this" or "Your cousin with the long hair and black fingernails will have the attitude of.." While he touches on some things that are a common thread amongst most dads, he gets far too specific in these generalizations. Even when viewed as metaphors many of them are still irrelevant and poor choices. I can relate to a few things that he talks about but not most. The presumption is that your family dynamic is exactly like his. I was under the impression that this book would be more about fatherhood and encompass things that most dads can relate to, not about the author's very specific and detailed family dynamic that bears no relevance to me or my role as a father whatsoever.
This book is simple, which is a good thing. I think the book does it job well enough to the idea across. It reminds me a bit like Kid-Friendly Ways To Change Behavior - Fun conflict Management Tactics For Parents (Conflicts and Negotiations series), only with less facts. The book is easy enough to comprehend, but it is certainly effective for any father to read.
This book was fun reading with many giggles and insights. A great book for any new father or any old father. Lots of touching yet comical moments... Mom's would love it too... Highly recomend to add to your collection.
